Treatments

Our team are here to help you get the best natural-looking and healthy smile. As a practice we are dedicated to preventive dentistry and will help you maintain healthy teeth and gums for life. Good communication with our clients is very important to us and we take time to explain proposed treatment. There will always be time to ask questions about our treatments or any other aspect of care at the practice.

Tooth whitening
Our clients increasingly hope for bright, healthy looking teeth. There are many options available for lightening natural teeth, which use a variety of materials and techniques. We prefer to use a home whitening system which are applied for an hour or two on a daily basis using soft, pliable shields, moulded to the shape of your own teeth. Over a period of two or three weeks a really noticeable, stable colour improvement can be achieved. This is a safe, tried and tested technique which can be topped up easily and at minimal cost every two to three years if necessary.

‘New smiles’ – cosmetic reshaping and contouring
A tremendous number of patients are fundamentally happy with their teeth, but would just like them re-shaped and tidied up. We can offer straightforward solutions to really improve your smile. Just by removing rough edges and repolishing fillings. This gives superb results without resorting to more complex and time consuming options – usually we spend about an hour to work our magic. Contouring linked to lightening can transform your smile, and with it your confidence and feeling of wellbeing.

Laser scanning and ozone treatment
Early decay can often be hard to detect by the traditional technique of using a mirror and dental probe to find ‘weak spots’, often it is very hard to see on x-rays. But even early decay should be treated because if left, it can lead to larger cavities, pain or even loss of the tooth. We have invested in the most modern technology to find this type of early decay and deal with it promptly and comfortably. The dipynodent uses a safe, low power laser light to shine into the hidden crevices of a tooth and measure its strength. Then, if decay is found, the crevice can be cleaned with an air polisher then treated with Healozone™. Ozone is a colourless, tasteless gas which happens to be really efficient at getting rid of bacteria. The ozone takes about 40 seconds to treat each tooth, and with good care at home, using good quality toothpaste, can stop decay in its earliest stages. The entire process is quick and absolutely comfortable; even better, it’s less costly than having the tooth recovered with a conventional filling. Dental implants
Sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, teeth are lost. However, losing teeth can:
  • Cause cosmetic problems if the tooth was visible
  • Cause adjacent teeth to slowly ‘collapse’ into the gap
  • Reduce the efficiency of chewing
  • Effect clarity of speech
  • Mean that previously stable partial dentures become loose.

So, what choices are there to replace lost teeth?
Lost teeth can be replaced in several ways including, dentures, bridges and implants. But, even the best dentures can be loose or affect speech and need to be fixed to adjacent teeth, which often means drilling these healthy trouble free teeth just to support the bridgework. Increasingly, implants are being seen as the most appropriate and long-term way to replace teeth.
The implant is carefully placed so as to function as an artificial tooth root. On top of this a porcelain crown or a removable bridge can be fitted which is retained with high strength ‘pop studs’.

Dental implants are a complex and in the short-term, relatively costly option, but offer the closest thing to ‘new teeth’ – they carry high success rates of about 96% and if well cared for should last many years. In this context they are excellent value for money and should be considered if you have missing teeth.

We offer free initial assessment visits so that you can find out more about this exciting technique without being under pressure to agree to treatment until you are happy and clear about our recommendations.

Hygiene
Our fully-trained, General Dental Council registered hygienist can help you to achieve and maintain a glistening smile, we’ll tailor your plan visits to make sure you’re getting the best long-term care possible.

Electric toothbrushes
We have negotiated a superb price for the latest electric toothbrushes. We want all of our patients to benefit from this and sell the package onto you at cost price, and more importantly will back up your purchase with proper advice and support.

Fees and payments
You can expect no surprises concerning treatment, fees or financial arrangements. You will always be in control of what is happening to you because we make a point of listening to our patients carefully. We provide a full written treatment plan with itemised, estimated costs, following full discussion with one of our team for each new course of treatment. No treatment will be undertaken without your consent. We do require an estimate to be settled in full by the last appointment to which it relates and we believe that being open and ‘business like’ we are able to maintain a consistently high standard of care using the best materials and equipment available.

Finance facilities
We offer a series of clear payment schemes which you may use if you wish. These schemes allow you to budget for the cost of private dental care. Please ask at reception for full details.
